A place that has been in business for 95 years, in the same building, deserved a visit. When I heard this, I had to take that short drive to Madison, Illinois, to see what this "fish sandwich" craze was all about. I walked in and felt as if I had falling into a time capsule. I mean that in a good way. You had locals at the bar, talking just shooting the breeze. There was a constant flow of foot traffic. The server was patient and very friendly as she balanced cooking, taking orders, and interacting with customers. Not missing a single beat. I was very impressed! So she handed me the brown paper bag. I couldn't wait to get to the car! This sandwich was huge! A beautiful golden crust! Light, not overpowered with seasoning. The homemade tarter sauce. Banana peppers and onions. In between two slices of soft Italian cream bread. Simply delicious is all I can say. This place was worth every mile driven. Great job!

My folk’s and I always get fish when we travel and all three of us said this was the best fish sandwich we’ve ever had! From the side dishes to the sauces, to the service, this place is 5 stars all day long! Lovely place. Not far from Gateway National Park either! Just perfect. Thank you!

Food is fantastic!! My GMA used to work here many many years ago and my family comes here all of the time!! Not only during Lent, but all of the time...the fish is delicious so we drive from IL and MO to get the delicious food . But the cod sandwich is THE best sandwich ever!!

95 yr family business in a small, unassuming building with small dine in area. Cod sandwich with unique batter breading served on fresh Italian bread with pickles, onion and banana peppers. Add freshly made tartar sauce. Uniquely delicious

Wonderful experience... I didn't have enough money to pay for my lunch, and they didn't accept credit cards. Out of kindness granted. I had the Best Cod fish sandwich I've ever experienced.... Over 100 years of service ... POWER

My boss told me about this place so I decided to try it out for myself , I am sooo glad I did !!!! Hands down the best fish sandwich I ever had , fresh bakery style bread and the finish prepared perfectly!! A hidden gem if your not from the area , family run business over 90 years , excellent customer service and a family vibe of a restaurant u feel like your entering someone house rather than a restaurant Definitely a place to visit !!!!

The very best and tastiest fish sandwich that I've had in the Midwest. The delicious bread is locally sourced in St Louis and the tender cod filets are sourced from Iceland, while being freshly breaded and fried in-house. The sandwich includes pickles, onions, and banana peppers that flavorfully complement each other to make this a truly delectable treat. I also ordered the potato salad and coleslaw (both delicious); and put some of that coleslaw plus a slice of cheese (for a small upcharge) on the sandwich (all were yummy). Don't let the external appearance of this place stop you -- MUST TRY!
